The Creativity Gap: How the Arts Inspire a Creative   Society
Creativity 2000
World Summit on the Arts and Culture
In December 2000, the Canada Council for the Arts hosted the first World Summit on the Arts and Culture — an international meeting of national arts councils. The Summit, opened by Prime Minister Chrétien, was attended by over 50 countries and took place in the Chateau Laurier Hotel and the National Arts Centre. As producer of the event, Katherine Watson was responsible for the technical requirements of the conference and the design of a program of performances to complement the Summit content. In addition to ensuring that Canadian creators in a range of disciplines were prominently featured, Katherine designed an e-lounge: a gathering space for delegates and the Ottawa community that focused on new digital innovation and incorporated evening programs in performance and media art.
