In 2001, the National Research Council invited Katherine
Watson to provide them with an overview of international
collaborations in arts and science to help build a case
for cross-sectoral collaborations. Katherine was able
to broker a partnership with the Canada Council for
the Arts and design the internationally acclaimed Artist-in-Residence
for Research Program (AIRes), within which established
Canadian artists could apply for two-year fellowships
to enter into research partnerships with NRC scientists
and engineers. Katherine Watson managed the three-year
pilot program (2001-04), including marketing and outreach,
communication with applicants, and convening and facilitating
the cross-disciplinary assessment panel.
