The Artist-in-Residence for Research program

The AIRes program was launched on 15 April 2002, the 550th anniversary of the birth of Leonardo da Vinci, with the signing of an agreement between the NRC and the Canada Council for the Arts in the library of the National Research Council of Canada. It was a surprising event that combined speeches by the President of the NRC and the Director of the Canada Council with the installation of artwork and a performance art piece that bridged the worlds of art and science. The launch made front page news and was a top story in several media outlets.
